104.3 miles, total climb 2583.6ft, average speed 13.2mph

A gorgeous day was forecast and so it was.  The alarm went off at 4.40am (gulp) and off I went to meet my old partner in crime Mark Plati at Central Park to take on my third (his twelfth!) New York City Century.

It’s a lot of riding in traffic, hence the slower average speed but as Mark commented, there really is no better way to see NYC than from a bike and on this ride you pass through every kind of neighbourhood and see all sorts of things.

It’s the Escape New York Century, run by the New York Cycle Club, next for me, coming up on the 26th, which will be a completely different experience than this, but I have to say, this ride is in my blood now and if I’m in New York when it takes place, you’ll find me on it.

And before I sign off, click here to go to Transportation Alternatives website and see for yourself the fantastic work they do on behalf of cyclists in NYC.
